Le Bassin d'Arcachon est une lagune de 250 km², ouvert sur l'océan par des passes. Il y a de nombreux lieux intéressants à visiter comme: La dune de Pilat (2,700 mètres de long et 105 mètres de haut, la plus haute d'Europe); Le banc d'Arguin (entre le Pilat et l'océan); L'île aux oiseaux (un espace naturel au milieu du bassin); Le delta de la Leyre (réserve ornithologique, où l'eau salé et l'eau douce se rencontrent); Tous les villages ostréicoles autour du Bassin; etc.

Le Bassin est également un haut lieu pour la plongée sous-marine pour les nombreux plongeurs Bordelais. Les deux principaux sites sont Hortense sur la pointe du Cap Ferret et Saint Yves dans Arcachon, mais il y a également beaucoup d'autres sites intéressants dont certains sont réputés pour rencontrer des Hippocampes.

Les plongeurs avancés pourront sortir du bassin et plonger sur plusieurs épaves comme Le Chariot (Le câblier) ou plus au large sur les grandes épaves du convoi...
