English (Traduiu aquest text en Català): Triton Bay is a area in the southern part of Irian Jaya, which has only been discovered for diving a few years ago. One of the pioneers in the area was Larry Smith, who also discovered and named most of the dive sites in the area. Until today Triton Bay is a quite rarely visited area and a lot of new things are still to be discovered.
The spots in the Triton Bay have a great mix of reef fish, big fish (rays, sharks, wobbegongs) and a lot of macro creatures (e.g. hippocampus pontoi, bobtail squids, ghost pipefish). Some sites do also have rich coral growth, inluding extensive fields of black coral.
The downside of Triton Bay is the visibility which is often quite limited.
At the time of writing there is only one dive operation at Triton Bay (Triton Bay Divers). Check their website for details. Arrival is via airplane to Kaimana, the closest city. The other way to access Triton Bay for diving is on liveaboard boats(e.g. Grand Komodo Tours). These cruises usually start from Sorong or Kaimana.
Rainy/windy season is June-September.
